Overview

I led the digital hospitality project for the Fiesta Americana resort, coordinating engineering teams across countries and time zones. The delivery brought cable TV and streaming together in a native app for guest-room TVs.

Challenge

Unify two content sources that previously required switching TV inputs. Beyond the application, the project depended on TV Box and USB dongle integration for the coaxial signal, with development and validation spread across international teams.

Architecture & solution

I coordinated a Kotlin application with Jetpack Compose, Unicast streaming, and an electronic program guide. USB dongles and custom drivers brought the coaxial signal into the same interface. Planning aligned hardware testing cycles with software development and the teams’ time zones.

Engineering decisions

  1. Integrate coaxial input through USB dongles and custom drivers to make the channels available inside the application.
  2. Use Kotlin and Jetpack Compose to bring playback and navigation into a native Android TV interface.
  3. Plan delivery around team time zones and hardware validation cycles.

My contribution

I was responsible for project management: team alignment, the roadmap, risk tracking, and quality. My Android TV experience helped me assess architectural decisions and account for hardware constraints in delivery planning.

Outcomes

The solution was deployed in the hospitality operation, bringing TV channels and streaming into the application. Guests could access both sources without switching television inputs.

  • Application deployed at the resort with coaxial channels and Unicast streaming.
  • Program guide and navigation combined in the hospitality interface.

Lessons learned

  • Teams in different time zones need documented decisions so work can continue without simultaneous meetings.
  • Hardware integration needs its own validation time. That effort must be planned alongside software development.
